Author Guidelines

Submitting an article manuscript to ZICONS: Zawiyah International Conference on Sharia and Legal Studies (Proceedings Journal) involves several important stages that authors must carefully follow. These stages are outlined as follows:

Registration
Registration is the initial stage for authors and can be accessed via the upper-right section of the OJS platform. At this stage, authors are required to prepare an active email address and complete their affiliation details in accordance with the journal’s guidelines. If the article is written by more than one author, additional authors must be added using the add contributor feature in the metadata section.

Preparation of the Article Draft
Before submitting a manuscript to ZICONS: Zawiyah International Conference on Sharia and Legal Studies (Proceedings Journal), authors must prepare the article draft in Microsoft Word format or a similar file format. Preparation begins by downloading the journal template available on the OJS page. The manuscript must be written using this template and comply with the established author guidelines. Key requirements include: (1) a word count ranging from 5,000 to 8,000 words; (2) a manuscript structure consisting of an introduction, literature review, methodology, discussion, conclusion, and references; and (3) a citation system using Mendeley or Zotero with APA Style (body-note).

Submission Process
Once the article draft is completed, authors may proceed with the submission through the OJS of the ZICONS Proceedings Journal. At this stage, authors will be required to check all available administrative requirement boxes. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) must be completed, while those without an asterisk may be left blank. This stage also provides an option to upload supporting documents (if any), such as manuscripts derived from undergraduate theses, master’s theses, doctoral dissertations, or other research projects. After completing all steps, authors must wait for notification from the journal regarding the manuscript’s status, whether it is rejected or proceeds to the next stage.

Relevance to the Journal’s Focus and Scope
After the manuscript enters the OJS system of ZICONS: Zawiyah International Conference on Sharia and Legal Studies (Proceedings Journal), the editorial team will conduct an initial screening based on the relevance of the title and theme to the journal’s focus and scope, particularly within the field of Sharia and Legal Studies. Manuscripts deemed irrelevant will be rejected immediately, while those aligned with the journal’s scope or related sub-themes will be processed further. Authors are also advised to avoid double submission within the same year, even as co-authors, to prevent administrative conflicts.

Plagiarism Screening
After submission acceptance, the editorial team of the ZICONS Proceedings Journal will conduct plagiarism screening using Turnitin, with a maximum similarity threshold of 25%. For authors from Indonesia who submit manuscripts in English, plagiarism checks may also be conducted on the Indonesian-language version, which may be requested as a supplementary file. If the similarity index exceeds the allowed threshold, the manuscript will be rejected.

Review Process
If the manuscript successfully passes the plagiarism screening, it will proceed to the substantive review stage. The review process consists of three steps: (1) compliance with the journal template—manuscripts that do not adhere to the template will be returned or rejected; (2) methodological review to assess the appropriateness of the research approach and methodological writing; and (3) substantive review by reviewers with expertise relevant to the field of study. Reviewers will provide review notes indicating either minor or major revisions. Manuscripts may be rejected if they fail to meet academic standards.

Revision Stage by the Author
After reviewers provide their revision notes, the editorial team will forward the feedback to the author for revision within a period of 1–3 months. Failure to submit revisions within the specified timeframe will result in rejection. Once revisions are completed, authors must re-upload the revised manuscript via the revision or discussion column in the OJS. If the revisions are deemed satisfactory and in line with the reviewers’ recommendations, the manuscript will proceed to the next stage.

Copyediting
Copyediting is the stage at which the manuscript is formally accepted by ZICONS: Zawiyah International Conference on Sharia and Legal Studies (Proceedings Journal). During this stage, editors will edit the manuscript to ensure compliance with the journal’s layout and structural standards. If necessary, translation services may also be conducted at this stage.

Publication
After the copyediting process is completed, the journal management will inform the author of the publication fee as stated in the journal’s publication fee policy. Once payment is completed, the manuscript will be processed for publication, and a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) will be issued. Publication will follow the journal’s predetermined publication schedule.
